Shot Street today ! Bloody freezing but great crisp light at times , did I get lucky ?
That’s the question , I shot heaps of pictures today which is unusual for me , I’m not sure if the picture below is the best of this shoot ?
Anyway I shot this street location to death, it had a ethereal , other worldly feel !

TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 17 , 17/01/20
Truth be told I did not want to go out and battle the elements today !
I was bereft of ideas and the clock was ticking,
I remembered thinking how I wanted this project to reflect both my life and my photography, I had a music channel on TV in the background, I was inspired by the poor quality of these old 1970’s music videos.
I’m sure I could make the quality of this video look worse and introduce a bit of creative blur, that would reflect the day and the music I enjoy,
I held the camera 6 inches from the screen and selected a shutter speed that was longer than it should be, that did the trick !

Busy day today , so I had to get today’s “masterpiece” done and dusted early !
Following my instincts and spirit of discovery I ended up with this Rothko-esque vibe, not sure I have ever walked this far on the photographic wild side before, I think that explains the appeal of this image for me, it represents and celebrates a new found photographic freedom !
I love doing it wrong !

TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 15 , 15/01/20
(Added later 5.30pm today ) I had a dental appointment today and thought I would share the patient view as part of the 365 , enjoy !

One of my old employers used to say if you can’t shoot “IT” ! , then shoot why your unable to shoot it , in other words come back with something, no excuses !
I was up against it today, as was everyone, the storm arrived , no shadowy bollocks today , I remembered a variation on the “if you can’t shoot it “ quote ! Here goes , Don’t show what it looks like , show what it feels like ?
That is what I did here , whatever I shot today would have looked like shit , but this is how the day felt . Shit !
You have to come back with something, days like today certainly test a photographers commitment !

TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 14 , 14/01/20
What a day ! The sort of day where coffee , heat and home comforts transform the most enthusiastic of photographers into a reluctant participant !
My 365 shoot today had a deja -vu feel to it , believe it or not, I got the chance to re-shoot the carrot shot today, during the edit I thought the alignment could be improved , I regretted not making more of my first opportunity, I never expected to get a second bite at that picture, as the carrots belong on the side of a huge truck that I never expected to see again in the right place, lucky ?
I also revisited my sticky square location and made a few more pictures , I got nearer to achieving the result I want but no coconut on this occasion.
Day thirteen done, thankfully !
TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 13 , 13/01/20
As I went to pull the the door shut behind me, I noticed this !
I was going out to find today’s 365 photograph, I had just found it, this was a gift horse !
Today’s view turned up immediately , in fact it turned up before I was really looking properly , once your subconscious tunes in to the everyday, these little shadowy shots are everywhere, strange how they passed me by un-noticed until now ?
Reminds me that ordinary stuff photographed in great light, always looks better than great stuff photographed in ordinary light !

I struggled to get with the 365 program today, I told myself the weather would get better , it got worse ! Saturday is football day , watch the build up, watch the early game bla, bla , bla you know the story, I told myself the sooner I get out, the sooner I get the shot, the sooner I’ll be able to return home and vegetate in front of the footy !
One hour and no more was all I wanted to invest in my photography today, anyway my begrudged photo shoot was okay once I got my head around it, I managed to find this “sticky square” on a bus stop window and worked the location hard for a while, I’m sure there is a better shot to be had here, sadly, it didn’t reveal itself to me today !
I’m not unhappy with this, but I will be back !
TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 11 , 11/01/20 (Sticky Square)
A beautiful bright day in Gloucestershire was wasted on me today as other stuff got between me and my 365 shot ! A desperate walk around the garden with only a hour of light left reacquainted me with these scissors , I had been looking for these for ages, could they be today’s subject ?
I like those blue faded handles !
I shot them where I found them initially but the pic did not meet my expectations , I tried a few more shots against different backgrounds before I got lucky and found these lichen covered bricks . I put the scissors and bricks together, Happy !
I think my scissors are knackered now, they look alright here .
TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 10 , 10/01/20
I love the way signs of former lives remain on part demolished buildings , the decor ,stucture and colours are clues of how previous inhabitants occupied this space, it fascinates me. The payoff is that gable ends make compelling abstract photographs that are rich in detail and subtle social history .
This is possibly my favorite capture of the 365 project so far , It would appear that I’m going through a abstract phase , long may it continue !
Some days I feel like Jack of beanstalk fame, when I come back with the photographic equivalent of beans, not today !

TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 9 , 09/01/20
There I was doing not very much, thinking about the day ahead , nothing in particular , a pint of milk , a loaf of bread and of course at some point a 365 shot !
No sooner had that 365 thought passed through my head and this shadow pattern appeared in front of me, I had not noticed this potential abstract opportunity before ?
Thankfully my camera was at hand, I hadn’t put it away following yesterdays shoot , two frames and it was gone !
Well , that is that ,all sorted before 10.00am , day eight done !
TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 8 , 08/01/2020 (Nothing In Particular)
I’m a big fan of winter vegetables , especially carrots , I like them best when they are about ten foot tall !
Don’t worry I have not lost my mind, I’m just reflecting on today’s picture , I had it all sorted in my head , I knew where I was going and what I was shooting , Wrong !
I saw this and became adaptable, it was another rubbish day, weather wise , when I saw this , I grabbed it !
I’m not a big fan of longer lenses for street photography, I’ve had the lens I shot this with for a while, I rarely use it, I think of it as a get out of jail free lens as it simplifies the perspective of scenes like this !

TRIP AROUND THE SUN , NO 7 , 07/01/2020
I’m a optimistic photographer but I would not of tried to make a personal picture in today’s conditions in 2019 , this 365 project changes you, it takes you out of your comfort zone and makes you shoot subjects you would never shoot . in filthy weather conditions you would never choose !
In short this 365 Around The Sun project makes you desperate , which in turn makes you adapt and become experimental ! No bad thing in my view, although you can replace the experimental word with other less complementary descriptions if you want !
I’m delighted with today’s capture , I’ve done nothing to this file other than control the contrast & brightness , the colour cast is how it came out the camera, so I thought I would leave it uncorrected . I shot more than 100 variations of this view, so I might not have picked the best frame ?
Yes, I was desperate enough to shoot a lone skeletal tree in winter, we might be seeing a few more trees ? It works for me !

Thought Police , today’s location attracted the right person at the right time , it’s better to be lucky than good looking !
The red top against that sharp lime green fence certainly works for me , during the edit I noticed that the bike in the picture has highlights that also match the colour of the fence ! You’ve got to love a bit of serendipitous colour, contrast co-ordination .
I grabbed this picture when I was on my way to the supermarket , I suppose the light is dead right for this oppressive looking, post apocalyptic composition, just as well, as this flat soft light was the only light on offer today !

I can’t believe the light I was blessed with today , this hard winter light is begging to be exploited photographically, this view almost stopped me in my tracks and shouted “Photograph Me “, how could I refuse !
I shot many variations of this scene, the bulbs and their shadows took on a surreal vibe to me once they were framed up against the white background and that blue sky, the mystery of the big top marquee in the distance also helps ?
I have to admit that I stopped looking for more pictures once I had this shot in the bag, If you look carefully you can see that the bulbs are on. I’m happy with this one ,

They say you should follow the light and see where it leads, so that’s what I did !
A familiar location for me, but shot in a more graphic style with a longer lens , making best use of the winter afternoon light , I had the luxury of choice today as I managed another 2 pics that pleased me.but this one escaped the cut !

Must admit day 2 has come around quickly, but I knew it was coming today, enabling me to look menacingly around my everyday, although I have never noticed half the stuff I’m seeing today !
My day to day looks different today , I suppose that is the whole point of this shot each day shenanigans !
Little more than a picture on a wall and a lamp , it works for me , getting better ?
TRIP AROUND THE SUN , No 2 , 02/01/2020
This one eared cat may not be the most auspicious of starts to my new 365 photo each day project but it was a bit last minute as I did not plan to start shooting a new project so soon after completing The State Of Britain project .
At 3.00pm on the 1st of January I was taking 2020 off , by 4.00pm I was starting this 365 project ?
I’m hoping that this project will help me to shoot in a more objective way and shoot the mundane I would normally ignore , in short I’m hoping to create images that are more survey !
It’s not a masterpiece each day, just a daily survey of my everyday !
