When The Going Gets Tough ...

This “top tip” might feel like cheating but sometimes you have to do what you have to do …

Most of the blogs I have ever written celebrate the virtue of hard work , I’m a huge advocate of the old adage which claims to link hard work with “Luck” but exceptions exist , in my mind anyway !

Before I get into this, let me state that laziness is rarely rewarded in Street Photography but this blog might just encourage togs to do less and reap the rewards ?

We’ve all had those days when we’re desperate to make a few pictures but the weather conditions are not playing ball , the central heating is on, and the kettle is giving you the “Hello” look !

Its hard to swap all these distractions for a good soaking in a rain storm and the promise of a few bad weather photographs !

The thing is you don’t have to get wet to find a few “unusual” picture opportunities , you just have to put your shoes on, leave the house and believe that a “Masterpiece” awaits !

This is a view through a steamed up car window , I did a short series of these views and never got out the car !

The bottom line is that pictures can be found during the worst of storms from the sanctuary of a car , a bus or even a bus stop , ensuring that you and your gear stay warm and dry , use rain drops or fogged windows as an effect on the worst of days and discover a new look to your work.

Something is always possible photographically , you may not like the conditions that your stuck with but opportunities will reveal themselves if a open mind and level of enthusiasm can be found & maintained , in short keep looking !

Something is always possible photographically , the bad weather become the subject here …

The takeaway point from this blog is to encourage photographers to throw themselves in the photographic deep end , learn to swim in conditions beyond your physical and creative comfort zone , all weather and lighting conditions are good for something you just have to work WITH the conditions you inherit rather than find excuses for not trying to make pictures , make the most of what is in front of you rather than wishing for ideal circumstances !

When the going gets tough , some of us just sit in the car and let the pictures come to us …

Take whatever comes on the chin , ADAPT !

Please note that all of my car based pictures are created from a safely parked up car , drive by shooting is against the law !
