Big Macs , Haircuts & The first shoot of the year !

Before we get into this let me start with a safety first warning x 100 , the Pandemic crisis has not vanished and lives are still being lost , please remain cautious if you have yet to receive the vaccine , in fact , remain cautious even if you have !

Street Photographer plans photo shoot should not be the subject of great fanfare or a blog in normal times but it is today !

Apparently, some Lockdown rules are being lifted next week in the UK and this vaccinated photographer is not hanging about , I’m hoping to put my Street Photography head on and see what the “New” world looks like, hopefully through optimistic, creative “Street” eyes rather than the tired Documentary gaze of my Testing Times project .

Most of my photography has been created through a sense of duty during the last 12 months rather than a sense of fun , although I did break out a little with The Whoooosh Project last summer .

Writing this blog has really brought home to me how personal circumstances and state of mind influences photographic mindset , approach and ultimately the imagery itself , I’m genuinely looking forward to discovering my visual response to the “New” normal !

I don’t expect the the streets to be full of folk , in fact I’m unsure of what to expect , perhaps a position of few expectations is the safest way of avoiding disappointment ?

I know that many of the shops have not made it through to the other end of the UK pandemic , a level of sadness might obscure my optimism as I walk down familiar diminished streets that have featured in my work extensively during the last decade .

Traditional shops actually feature in some of my most successful captures , I hope they have made it through as I feel a real connection to the locations that have unwittingly participated in some of my pictures.

Last but not least I should prepare to discover that some of the local characters and street venders who live in my memories and photographs failed to make it through , I sincerely hope I’m wrong …

Photographically I’ll do what I can to find one or two decent views that will make me smile , failing that I’ll replace my “Street” head with a more objective “Documentary” head and photograph the remains of a former life .

At the very least I expect to remove this box from my head and get a hair cut and maybe a Big Mac or Greggs !

Good luck to you if your planning your first post lockdown Street Shoot this week , a fresh start ?

Take care and be safe …
