They say that when you’ve dug a hole for yourself you should stop digging , top advice !
I can’t believe I was daft enough to write a blog that committed me to create a fresh picture for this weekends blog just before Storm Eunice was announced , see part one of this blog to witness what I now look back on as a school boy error !
You know you’ve made a mistake when you wake up to find Sky News reporting on the storm from the car park of a local pub , anyway as I write this ( FRIDAY ) the Hooley is blowing and the rain is passing my windows in a horizontal direction , its a great day for making a few pics , not !
Once the Red Weather Warning arrived I knew that the leisurely photo shoot I had planned was unlikely to become a reality , I needed to get something in the bag sooner rather than later as too many uncontrollable obstacles could scupper my ability to deliver and share a new pic for this blog , it would not be a surprise for me to lose power , internet access etc .
My instincts told me that I needed to drop everything and bring my plans forward , I needed to find one or two pics immediately as this self imposed challenge was becoming increasingly unpredictable ?
I’m pleasantly surprised by the picture I came back with , as Thursday afternoon didn’t feel like a blue sky day , in fact I got caught in a shower on the way back to the car !
The streets were empty , forcing me to look closer and seek out good light and shadows , proof if proof were needed that photo shoots don’t always go to plan , you have to adapt and make something from not very much if you want to come back with a pic …
The takeaway from this blog is that photographers should throw themselves into the photographic deep end more frequently , you will almost always swim , on the rare occasions that you fail the learning curve will be steep but worthwhile , on a personal level I must start listening to the weather forecast and stop writing blogs that promise new pics , its also a good idea to listen visually to the location !
You can’t always get what you want but if you try , sometimes you might find …
I enjoyed my photo-walk even though it was a bit rushed , the hardest thing to do for this shoot was the simple act of putting on my shoes , everything got much easier once I get out with the camera …
I think I’m developing a light bulb shadow trigger , makes a change from umbrellas and balloons !
Take care and stay safe if your out and about this weekend …
