What is that special something that makes some photographs “Very Special” and others less memorable ?
No amount of technical , compositional or aesthetic perfection guarantees that the “Some-thing-else-ness” I’m trying to identify here will be present in a photograph , in fact I wonder if the pursuit of perfection in isolation will ensure that the “Magic” moves on and fails to land in the frame !
The best cameras , lenses and lighting do not necessarily help to create the elusive quality that I’m trying to communicate, describe and understand here , the opposite might be true , in short , only some pictures possess and radiate this abstract quality ——- while most of the others do not ?
I hesitate to use language like magic , spirituality or woofle dust but the more I consider this mysterious quality the more I realise that this phenomenon lives in a space beyond normal vision , the “Magic” that I speak of here relies on deeper “Inner” senses than sight alone …

A emotional spiritual response is certainly near to what I’m I’m trying to convey here but I walk and talk with caution when spirituality is mentioned ! Things are complicated further by the fact that this elusive quality is invisible to some , things become even more challenging when you realise that pictures of static everyday objects can also radiate this indescribable “Thing” I’m struggling to describe ?
Strangely most of you reading this will identify with the phenomenon I have failed to describe adequately here , you will probably be familiar with it and know it when you see it !
