The world needs more “BAD” photographs !
It’s not April 1st , I’m serious about this “Bad Photograph” thing !
Do you ever feel inhibited by all the technical stuff that gets between you and your images , do the rules take the fun out of your photography ?
Don’t get me wrong I’m no slouch when it comes to all the techy stuff but I don’t really see the appeal of being a photographic anorak !
Those of you who follow my work will be aware that I have been occupying a photographic space that could be described as experimental during the pandemic, although I prefer to think of my “Failures” as learning opportunities or doing photography “Wrong” , deliberately !
The interesting thing is that some images are wrong / unusable , others are wrong but on the right side of wrong / intention and a few of the others are so wrong that they go beyond expectation and become desirable / serendipitous ?
Here ‘s the thing I created a short series recently that was made up of pictures that lived in the “Controlled” photo-failure sector and I’m very pleased with them , strangely the bi-product of this work was a number of images that were totally “out of control” photo-failures , the worry is that these wrong / wayward captures are really growing on me with the passage of time ?
Lets cut to the chase , bad technique is just another technique when you do it deliberately !
Are you free enough to do it wrong and feel good about it or are you still trapped by the dogma of “Good” photography , “Good” gear etc ?
What has this to do with the price of fish on a Friday ?
Street Photography is a form of personal photography that should be free from the pressures of conformity in all its forms , Street Photography should represent a attitude that embraces a freedom of expression and discovery , dare I suggest that Street Photography could / should be a form of creative rebellion ?
The rebellion, freedom and attitude embraced in these landscapes is definitely transferable to Street Photography.
