Looks as if all things Tyneside are on trend photographically right now , Killip has a new posthumously published book , Sirkka has a new edition of Byker arriving before Christmas and the 20 / 20 exhibition featuring the work of Graham Smith / Killip is at Augusta Edwards Fine Art , until Nov 6th .

My loyalties are always torn between my original paper back first editions and the shiny new editions that keep appearing from all my fave photographers , although I have a sneeky preference for the older print editions knowing full well that many of these modern editions do not really ring my bell , tonal perfection of my fave pics feels like a misrepresentation to me , I prefer the darker print values of the original Byker book , it is print quality of its time , were these pics made to enjoy a full range of tones ? I like my photo-blacks to be as black as coal , its a true overprinted 70’s - 80’s vibe that I know well , I like what I know …
