“The Morning After The Night Before” .
I made this picture in Sardinia while out very early one morning seeking good light and good coffee , I had attended the Alghero Street Photography Awards the night before and was feeling more than a little fragile . This was shot at about 7.30am , which felt like stupid o’oclock to me but lots of local folk were out and about on the sea front !
I discovered this open air cafe near my hotel and was quite taken by the hand painted back rests on the cafe stools , I knew a picture opportunity awaited I just needed to get my act together , I was desperate for a coffee and nothing was going to stand between me and that , as I drank two strong Italian coffees I developed a plan, I knew the “Seaside Postcard Vibe” stools were about to feature in my next photograph , I just needed to finish my drink and wait for the all important conspiracy of coincidence to occur !
I didn’t have to wait long for this moment to arrive , I had a fully formed idea of what I wanted / expected , proof if proof were needed that a hung-over photographer can still see a pic the morning after the night before with the assistance of caffeine , although most of you reading this are probably already aware of that …
Street Photography always feels much easier in holiday locations , the consistent light and happy go lucky mindset always delivers for me , I like working when everyone is relaxed and having a good time , happiness definitely helps me to see pictures !
